- Writer/director/fanboy/great storyteller Kevin Smith will conduct one of his famous Q&A sessions at Tampa Improv.
Who wants to sit around and listen to a director tell stories about his brushes with fame and talk in depth about his movies? Nobody, really — unless that director is Kevin Smith.
Smith has the resume of a revered writer and director, with Clerks and Mallrats among fan favorites (and Clerks II qualifies as one of the few worthy sequels we've seen following years after a famous original).
His pop culture cred is solid, with his Comic Book Men television show serving as a sort of Pawn Stars for nerds. But that's not why you want to see him when he stops by Tampa Improv on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
You want those director/writer/hilarious guy stories, because Smith has no problem sharing juicy gossip, "what could have been" scenarios and bizarre encounters with celebrities. And he tells them like a buddy would tell you about what happened at a party you missed, filling you in on the details without making you feel left out. Plus, Smith is genuinely funny, making a comedy club the perfect venue for these popular audience Q&As.
Showtime is Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 8 p.m. (sold out) and 10:15 p.m. (tickets still available as of this write-up.) $30. 1600 E. Eighth Ave., Tampa (Ybor City). Info: improvtampa.com or 813-864-4000.
