Local company GoFundMes for a bigger food truck

Covered in chalk, the CBS Food Truck may be rented and used on a day-by-day basis.

A Tampa-based food truck company is raising funds to expand its one-of-a-kind business model.

The Chalk Board Special Food Truck, or CBS, recently acquired a larger Airstream trailer for its customizable concept. This isn't your average restaurant-on-wheels, though. CBS rents out its chalkboard-covered truck, allowing people to personalize the vehicle — name, menu and all — for special events and more.

In the past, the mobile kitchen has sported colorful chalk drawings of burgers and ice cream and animals, plus logos of businesses like Cena, Land Rover, Merrill Lynch, Jamison B. Breadhouse Bakes and Mini Doughnut Factory.

CBS aims to "help local artists get contract work, help a small business explore their next idea [and] help put people in charge of their own future without the worry of finding out if their idea will work," according to its GoFundMe page.

The online campaign, started June 16, is looking for donations to help CBS renovate its new retro trailer. With a little more than $2,200 raised, the project has a goal of $20,000, and donors will get their names inscribed into the Airstream once its complete.

"If you were ever a go-getter, wishful thinker, starving artist or the 'I want to try'-type person," the campaign page says, "this is where you put your heart and part."
