Prince Golden, who is now in the Guinness Book of World Records, plays Local 662 in St. Petersburg on October 12, 2013.

All eyes are on Murs today after the Los Angeles-based rapper entered the Guiness Book of World Records for a 24-hour rap marathon. Buried in all that celebration was the fact that a Tampa-reared emcee, Prince Golden, also entered the record books as a world record holder thanks to his role on a team that broke a record for longest team freestyle (one once help by a troupe in Tampa who achieved the designation in 2014).

Michael M Sinclair caught up with Prince Golden of Samurai Shotgun before the show and had a few questions for him.

CL: Which comic book character would you want to be in a rap duo with?

Prince Golden: Nightcrawler from the X-Men, why? Because we are everywhere, helping who we can, plus his faith is sky high as is mine, and we both keep it PG-13 .

What is it like being a world record holder? How do you get a chance like that?

My drummer Jovan told me there was going to be a 24-hour cypher to break the world record at A3C in Atlanta. So we went to go check it out, I signed up and hung with the best of them. It was all love meeting emcees from all over to prove and test their skill, nothing but respect & love.

You still help curate the Tampa Bay music scene, even though you do not live in Tampa any more. How do you keep your ear to the ground here and maintain your head abroad?

I know a lot of artist period in the Bay area, in all genres of music. I like to find new music, new artist, go to shows, peep out names I've never heard of. People tell me to check out certain artist and I always will get around to it.

What are some of the Prince's guilty pleasures in music? Are you blaring that new Gaga on the DL?

OOhhh guilty pleasures in music, hmmm? It’s hard to say because I listen to everything, and people will be surprised if I know lyrics to a certain song from left field.

I hear you have some collabs coming up. Are they all local? What's next for Prince golden? Where can we find your music?

Yeah I have a lot of collabs and features coming this Fall and Winter, mostly local, some regional, I'm not hot enough to work with a national right now lol. Prince Golden has some things in the works but boosting Samurai Shotgun 100-percent right now.
