There’s so much to see and do at GIFF that it’s impossible to get to it all. Here’s some events that you should not miss:
Thurs., March 29 is the opening night reception at 6 p.m. at the Tampa Theatre, followed directly by a 7:30 p.m. screening of Bruce Beresford’s Peace, Love & Misunderstanding, starring Jane Fonda, Elizabeth Olsen and Catherine Keener.
Fri., March 30 at 6 p.m. at CineBistro in Old Hyde Park is the CL Visions awards showcase (shameless plug!), featuring screenings of the 25 best entries in our one-minute movie contest. The winner gets a check for $1000, which should add some drama to the festivities. The best part for you: It’s free. Follow up CL Visions by checking out A Bronx Tale (7:45 p.m., CineBistro) followed by a Q&A with writer/star Chazz Palminteri.
Or skip CineBistro and head for Muvico Centro Ybor for the world premier of Theresa Sareo: Alive Again (7:45 p.m., the singer will be in attendance) followed by a screening of the buzz-generating Trailer Park Jesus at 10:15 p.m.
Sat., March 31 is a day packed with shorts, docs, Brooklyn Brothers and more. The choices are maddening. If you only catch one event on Saturday, you have to make it the special screening of John Carpenter’s The Thing at the Hyde Park Rooftop Drive-In (i.e., the top of the parking garage). The film is followed by an afterparty with food and drink specials and a live DJ.
All good things must come to an end, and Sun. April 1 features the screening of The Hunter with Willem Dafoe (4:30 p.m., Tampa Theatre), followed by a closing night party at S.H. Kress & Co. at 7:30 p.m.
