The reason behind the Yborhood Rummage Sale is bittersweet. It's a farewell to its beloved and longtime New World Brewery employee Sarah "Bo Barah" Hargis, as she starts a new life in the Windy City.
We’re sad to see Sarah go, but we’re not complaining about the opportunity to rummage through her belongings.
Yes, the brewery is helping her get rid of her “crap,” and has invited the community to advantage of the situation.
Though the brewery throws large retail sales every few months, this event will be a lower-scale and more casual experience — though a crowd is certainly expected.
“We may end up having to spill out into the church parking lot next to us,” manager Dean Rosenberger said.
Tables holding various knickknacks and accessories will be scattered outside for your viewing and purchasing pleasure. And what to expect? Well, a little bit everything.
Unique items including clothing and accessories, stereo equipment and art supplies are expected to be on hand. Not to ruin any surprises, but you may even run into some burlesque apparel and cool plants to take home.
“There’s actually a guy who’s supposed to be bringing earthboxes,” Rosenberger said.
To top it off, the venue’s “Blue Sunday” DJs Cub and EZ-Rob keep tunes blaring for eager “rummagers.” Though the musicians usually set up to jam later in the day, they’re expected to set up early and entertain throughout the day.
Local indie record shop Microgroove will even showcase their goodies in a pop-up shop.
So come on out — after all, one person's "crap" is another person's treasure.
