THE ARCADE at SULPHUR SPRINGS SANDWICH SHOP

The door at Sulphur Springs Sandwich Shop proudly states that the establishment wants to be the new “neighborhood tradition,” and a menu item like The Arcade goes a long way toward making it so. This is one of the smaller sandos, but it makes up for its size with a wallop of flavor that hits you as soon as your mouth begins to inhale the aroma of the warm pretzel bun — stuffed with a generous portion of seared ahi tuna and leafy seaweed salad. Note the wasabi “pea” perched atop the sandwich like the olive in a martini. It’s not just for decoration: Crumble it inside the sandwich and make the Sriracha mayo pop. 9000 N. BRAISED PULLED PORK SANDWICH at URBAN COMFORT

If you’re in the Grand Central District area, try this pulled pork, which gets the braised treatment. A big pile of hot, juicy meat, drenched in sweet barbecue sauce with crisp fried pickles (yes, really) on top, it’s neatly nestled on a challah roll, but you might need a bib — that sauce has a tendency to drip. Not that I’m complaining. It’s one of those stacked barbecue sandwiches that belongs in an episode of Triple D.  2601 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, 727-623-9823, urbancomfortstpete.com. —Alexandria Jones

FAMOUS FRIED GREEN TOMATO BLT at STELLA’S

It’s up for debate which of Stella’s justifiably popular ’wiches wins the crown. The oven-roasted corned beef brisket in the Ro Ro Reuben is rich and ample. But the mix of textures and tastes in the BLT wins out. Warm, perfectly crisp bacon plays nicely with the lightly breaded crunch of cool green tomato, and spicy mayo gives every bite a little extra “oomph.” (Still, that Ro Ro is damned good.) 3119 Beach Blvd. S., Gulfport, 727-498-8950, stellasingulfport.com. —David Warner

FRESH MOZZARELLA at CITY’S BISTRO

This downtown St. Pete newcomer knows a thing or two about sandwich artistry, especially when it comes to its Fresh Mozz. You should know that the magical element here is basil-pesto mayo. The spread, which sounds sorta weird at first, pairs ridiculously well with the four-ingredient grilled sandwich’s sliced tomato, fresh mozzarella and rye bread. THE “JUEBAN” at THE STONE SOUP COMPANY

A (perhaps misspelled, though it is a made-up word, so…) mashup of Reuben and Cuban that puts a version of the former’s innards — pastrami, Swiss, sauerkraut and Russian dressing — on the latter’s iconic, Ybor-defining bread. Get it hot with a side of mojo “au jus” for a one-of-a-kind sandwich experience. 1919 E. Seventh Ave., Tampa, 813-247-7687, xsoup4u.com. —Scott Harrell
