Although he’s still working on his “issues” with LGBT constituents (having won no friends by voting notoriously anti-gay Terry Kemple onto the Human Relations Board and refusing to sign GAYbor Days proclamations), the 50 year-old former military man has shown a willingness to buck party orthodoxy in other areas. Though he disappointed political junkies when he opted out of a potentially juicy race for Congress vs. Kathy Castor, his brand of leadership on issues like alternative transportation is solely needed in this community.
