Celebrate a Gulfport favorite — O'Maddy's 25th anniversary

O’Maddy’s
has made a lasting impression on Bay area folks over the past two-and-a-half decades.

Some of my fondest recent memories include the few days I spent soaking up the vibe at the beloved waterside bar to write about it for our Gulfport neighborhood guide, and the piece I produced was one of my favorite so far, inspired as much by the characters who frequent O’Maddy’s as for the eclectic-casual ambiance.

Joe Guenther and wife/namesake Maddy – whose family ran the bar and re-invented it as O’Maddys in 1989 — made series of smart business decisions since taking over in 1996 (including introducing the now-legendary karaoke nights and opening the restaurant side of the bar in 2004), and have established a rep in the community for treating people well and delivering good times along with great food.

This Saturday, O’Maddy’s celebrates 25 years with a daylong street party featuring a celeb fashion show, volleyball tournament, silent auction, live music, raffle and a Taste of Gulfport local eats showcase.

All proceeds support the Guenther’s kids-and-seniors-assistance geared nonprofit, Michael J. Yakes Foundation (aka MY Foundation).

Sat., Nov. 15, 2-8 p.m., O’Maddy’s Bar & Grille, 5405 Shore Blvd S., Gulfport; more info at 727-323-8643.
