Sh*t happened 2/24/15: Dolphins, manatees and Sam Smith, oh my


Monday was not a great day to be on the sea's hit list.

A 39-foot fishing boat ran not just aground, but into a Ruskin-area beachside restaurant. Witnesses blamed the encroaching fog, but some were suspicious about the timing, which saw the boat hit the bar just two minutes before the end of Happy Hour.


SeaWorld Orlando has stopped letting patrons hand-feed the dolphins in its aquatic petting zoo Dolphin Cove. They're changing up the program slightly; people will still be able to manhandle, confuse and harass the animals in smaller, trainer-assisted group sessions, but the dolphins will no longer be rewarded for the humiliation.

Speaking of embarrassed marine mammals, as many as 15 manatees became stuck in a Satellite Beach storm drain, necessitating a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission rescue team to try to free them.
