Inside Scientology author scores with Haiti expose

  • Janet Reitman

Several years ago, a former World Bank official named William Easterly wrote a book criticizing what he said was the sheer he ineffectiveness of Western organizations to mitigate global poverty, and was promptly canned from his gig at the agency. He followed that up with the more popular book called The White Man's Burden, where he again argued that the west needed to own up to its own failures on the subject of foreign aid and trying to alleviate poverty.

I thought about that last night after reading the piece "How the World Failed Haiti," written by Janet Reitman in the new Rolling Stone.

Yes, that's the same same Janet Reitman that we wrote a few posts about last month, upon the publication of her long awaited epic story on the Church of Scientology, called Inside Scientology.

But prior to her career being waylaid for about five years covering COS, she has covered war torn areas in places like Sierra Leone, Iraq, Sudan, Zimbabwe and Haiti.
