Sour beer, anyone?

As early as Thursday, sour beers — everything from the funky to the pucker-worthy — are expected to hit half a dozen taprooms around town.

The scheduled takeovers are meant to celebrate Sour Beer Day, which is observed annually on the second Saturday of September. But keep an eye on the Facebook event pages of these local craft beer bars and breweries — just in case Hurricane Irma wants a taste of the popular style, too.

Arkane Aleworks A Sour Beer Day bash driven by more than 15 sours on draft — among them rare offerings that only appear a couple of times per year (Gypsy Tears, please?). "Maybe we'll even have some new stuff to try," writes Arkane Aleworks. While you're there, pair those pints with food from Lolita's Cocina Latina. Sept. 9, noon-midnight. 2480 E. Bay Drive #23, Largo, 727-270-7117. Facebook event.

The Brass Tap While another event is planned for the Carrollwood location, this Brass Tap has a mix of local (think Inoculum Ale Works and Tampa Bay Brewing Company) and out-of-town (think Dogfish Head and Coastal Empire Beer Co.) suds in store for the occasion. Sept. 9, noon-1 a.m. 775 Brandon Town Center Mall, Brandon, 813-654-4712. Facebook event.

Hawthorne Bottle Shoppe Hawthorne's billing its Sour Beer Day festivities as a "Gangsta's Paradise" — of sours and wild ales, that is. Specialty bottles and kegs are tapped throughout the day from breweries like Jolly Pumpkin Brewery and Jester King Brewery, Angry Chair Brewing, Six Ten Brewing, The Bruery, Hidden Springs Ale Works, J. Wakefield Brewing and Mikkeller. Sept. 9, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. 2927 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, 727-800-2810. Facebook event.

Hidden Springs Ale Works A draft invasion to commemorate one of the Hidden Springs crew's favorite styles: sour beers. Tunes from the legendary David Bowie accompany the taps, which include Oubliette (a sour blonde aged in sauvignon blanc barrels with blackberries and passion fruit), I’ll Show You Mine (a kettle-soured collaboration with 7venth Sun Brewery), and Brawndo, The Thirst Mutilator (a Gatorade Berliner). Sept. 9, noon-midnight. 1631 N. Franklin St., Tampa, 813-226-2739. Facebook event.

Southern Brewing & Winemaking Expect 20-plus sours and barrel-aged beers, including Apricot Bungalow, Pickle Gose and Barrel-Aged Et Tu, Brettus? — by the glass or flight. On a limited basis, growler fills begin at 7 p.m. The Surf and Turf food truck has a lineup of complementary dishes planned, too. Sept. 7, 5-11 p.m. 4500 N. Nebraska Ave., Tampa, 813-238-7800. Facebook event.

Willard's Tap House Nine kinds of sours on draft throughout the evening: Crooked Stave Petite Sour Peach, Crooked Stave Petite Sour Raspberry, Anderson Valley GT Gose, Ballast Point Sour Wench Blackberry Ale, Victory Sour Monkey, Crooked Thumb Mango Berliner, Tampa Bay Brewing Florida Tart, Darwin WeCBC, and Six Ten Blackberry CBGB. Sept. 7, 4 p.m.-midnight. 12500 Starkey Road, Largo, 727-581-8600. Facebook event.
