Creative Loafing has learned that Tea Party activists are planning on holding a major rally at Raymond James Stadium the night before the Republican National Convention begins in Tampa.
Called "Unity Rally 2012," among the featured speakers will be former GOP presidential candidates Herman Cain and Michelle Bachmann.
Currently there are 23 sponsors for the event, including the conservative website NewsMax.com, Cain's own Cain's Solutions Revolution and Tea Party Nation.
Another Republican candidate who came up short in during the nomination process, Texas Congressman Ron Paul, will be part of another rally earlier that day at the USF Sundome that runs from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
It may be interesting to see who gets the larger crowd. The Sundome holds around 10,000 - Raymond James over 60,000.
While the Tea Party gets their, well, party on in Tampa, the more establishment branch of the GOP - meaning all of the delegates that will be attending the convention - will be across the Bay, partying in St. Petersburg at the official invitation-only welcoming party for both delegates and reporters at Tropicana Field.
