It's voting season for the food world, too. Nominations for the James Beard Foundation's coveted Beard Awards (a.k.a. the culinary Oscars) are open, and at least one chef with local ties is campaigning for your vote.

In an email newsletter sent out Thursday, Sea Salt has recommended itself for Outstanding Wine Program and its chef-owner Fabrizio Aielli for Outstanding Restaurateur.

"Please join us in nominating Chef Fabrizio Aielli for a James Beard Award as 'Outstanding Restaurateur,'" begins the newsletter from Sea Salt, whose second location arrived at downtown St. Pete's Sundial in 2015. "The nomination honors his more than 20 years of dining excellence in the United States, from Washington, D.C. to Florida."

The open call for online Beard nominations began Oct. 15, and it's important to note that anyone can vote for any person or establishment in the Restaurant and Chef Awards free of charge  until Dec. 1. (The Foundation also recognizes books, journalism and restaurant design through annual accolades if you've got something or someone in mind.)

To submit an entry for the 2017 James Beard Awards Gala, planned for May 1 at Chicago's Lyric Opera, visit the Foundation's website. Happy voting!
