But take a closer look at the region's neighboring cities, and you'll also find multiple food and drink destinations that make a short drive worthwhile.
A new Brazilian gastropub, for instance, is set to take over a historic downtown Lakeland building on Munn Park this year.
Dubbed Posto 9, the upscale restaurant, inspired by the best eateries in Brazil, will dish seasonal farm-to-table creations using modern Brazilian cooking techniques. Grass-fed beef, cage-free and organic chicken and pork, fresh seafood and produce from area farmers will drive the menu, which changes bi-weekly; the restaurant aims to provide a new experience for diners every time.
"We are thrilled to be bringing Posto 9 to Lakeland. This beautiful city is destined to become a culinary destination in Central Florida,” said Marco Franca — executive director for Posto 9 and founder of Aquila Brasil, a consulting company providing M&A and business development services — in a statement.
Occupying 14,000 square feet, Posto 9 will hold 90 people in its chic, first-floor dining area, 170 in its two lounge areas (one on the first floor, the other on the rooftop) and 125 around the second-floor event space. Exposed brick, wood and stone, natural sunlight, and live walls are planned for the restaurant's decor.
A grand opening for the restaurant at 215 E. Main St. is slated for winter.
