Sounds from Scotland

Music Saturday, October 6

Battlefield Band has been around for more than three decades and though the lineup has changed several times since the band's inception, the fundamental goal of reviving the rich tradition of Celtic music and bringing it to a wider audience hasn't changed. The foursome is unofficially led by guitarist/keyboardist/songwriter Alan Reid — the sole original member — and their fun and rollicking sound fuses traditional and modern elements of Scottish music, the rich aural textures created by a diversity of instruments — bagpipes, accordions, fiddles, synthesizers, cittern, bass, whistles, and bouzouki included. Battlefied Band is currently touring in support of their latest album, Dookin', a lovely effort (their 24th) that combines old songs and new self-penned material. The band stops in St. Petersburg this Saturday night; Brendan Nolan opens. Sat., Oct. 6, 7 p.m., Palladium Theater, 253 Fifth Ave. N., St. Petersburg, $10-$25, 727-822-3590, mypalladium.org.
