To celebrate the 46th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, a coalition of Pinellas County leaders and advocates will attend a lunchtime rally in downtown St. Pete. The coalition is scheduled to show their support for safe and legal abortion access from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the corner of Central Avenue and Third Street.

It's kind of a tradition.

Participants will urge Florida legislators to protect reproductive care and the rights of all women. They include the League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area, Pinellas National Organization for Women, Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida, and Progress Florida.

"We must continue taking action against state legislation that chips away access to safe and legal abortion for women," said Amy Weintraub, reproductive rights program director for Progress Florida. "We are just a few weeks away from the start of the Florida legislative session and we must send a strong message that the rights of Florida women are to be protected."
