Striped tights and top hats are encouraged this Saturday when the Blueberry Patch throws one of its biggest events of the year – Burning Blueberry Brother, a costume ball celebrating creativity with a different theme each year. The 13th annual “Carnival of Mirrors” promises masks, mirrors, mazes, a midway and an abundance of spectacle, not to mention a diverse slate of live music.

There’s no better band to head up the festivities than West Palm Beach-brewed Bath Salt Zombies, a sextet pairing drums-fueled beats with Theramin and string instruments (guitar, mando, banjo, upright bass, fiddle) to get to their vibrant, grungy-grassy, gypsy-jazzy freaky-folk sound, with subject matter ranging from an invertebrate’s run of back luck ending in the bottom of a tequila bottle (“Lowly Worm”) to the hellhounds cashing in a contract for a man’s soul (“Scratching at My Door”) to the perils of falling in love with a whiskered woman (“Bearded Lady”). The cabaret sideshow comes replete with black light reactive props, makeup and costumes that glow in the dark and transform the musicians into a lively crew of instrument-banging skeletons. Also performing at Blueberry Brother: Redfeather, The Real Clash, Ragged Old Souls, Shoeless Soul, LILITH and Clearlight.

Costuming, gifting and general participation is encouraged, and organizers promise, “The Labyrinth will be open and illusion will abound”

The 13th Annual Burning Blueberry Brother takes place this Sat., Nov. 21, from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m., at The Blueberry Patch, 4923 20th Ave. S., Gulfport; admission is $10 (BYOB; ages 18 and up). Tentative schedule as follows: Drum Circle (3-3:45 p.m.), Shoeless Soul (3:45-4:45 p.m.), Ragged Old Souls (5-6 p.m.), The Real Clash (6:15-7:15 p.m.), RedFeather (7:30-8:30 p.m.), Bath Salt Zombies (2 sets - 9-10 p.m. and 10:30-11 p.m.); LILITH and Clearlight set times TBA.
