Iorio throws in the towel on bid to save high-speed rail

Like all good politicians, Pam Iorio is pragmatic.

So the Tampa Mayor isn't even waiting until Rick Scott prepares an official press release rejecting the federal government's $2.4 billion in funds to create a Tampa to Orlando high speed rail line before issuing her own release expressing her disappointment that the Governor will not allow the project to go forward.

In her statement, the Mayor writes that Scott's reasoning to reject the money (again) "does not take into account the work that has been done in the past week, which lays out a clear path for private investment and risk responsibility," adding, "The facts are clear: we have addressed his concerns on risk - the risk will fall to the private sector."
