We've all been at those rap shows where the emcee yells, “Do my ladies run this mother?!?” in an effort to get the women to cheer. This article is not about that. While Samurai Shotgun frontman Prince Golden is the listed promoter for the Ladies of the Mic show that happens at Fubar this Sat., July 18, there is no question that females will be dominating this space.

“It's a rare anomaly to see an all-female showcase, line-up, or an all female event shine at a well known venue such as Fubar in downtown Saint Petersburg,” said Figment The Emcee. The show headliner definitely appreciates the significance. “While solid male line-ups are very much common place at most hip hop venues, it means a great deal that each of these female artists get their moments on stage, their exposure, and gets to share their own art & experiences with a captivated audience.”

Dea, who can be seen in some of the best hip hop videos in Tampa Bay, will also be gracing the stage. Joining these two firebrands of different strands are Kiki, Ari Chi, Addison, Lisa & Taylor, and Asher. Wally Clark holds it down on the decks.

“We have artists from all around the Tampa-Bay area ready to show the world what it means to be a woman in the mix of hip hop and its culture,” Figment said. I've seen both Figment and Dea perform live, and attendees can expect a lot of raw emotion and passionate poetry over tight production; in sum, what you’d get at any good rap show.

Good luck ladies. Run it!
