Parents can get their kids high legally at MOSI this Saturday, July 14, when Tampa's Museum of Science Industry presents Kids in Charge! and Sky Trail Zip Line Launch Party 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Festivities include mummy-themed activities, games and birthday cake, along with the opportunity to glide more than 700 feet high.
On Sunday, the museum will find the next best way to beat the heat —besides, of course, a laser ray to blot out the sun.
Something as lo-tech as ice cream.
Learn about the authentic American ingenuity behind America's favorite summer treat and celebrate National Ice Cream Day.
"InterActors" will demonstrate the process behind cryo freezing using liquid nitrogen and fulfill Floridians’ lifelong fantasies of seeing something cool that won’t melt in .5 seconds.
Also, in honor of the holiday, MOSI will treat anyone who attends with some hand-dipped Blue Bell Ice Cream while supplies last. We suggest getting there early (have you been outside lately?).
The ice cream will be doled out between noon and 2 p.m. in the Grand Lobby, and the great people of Blue Bell will also be introducing their newest flavor, Summer Strawberry Pie Ice Cream, to those in attendance. This new concoction features a creamy strawberry ice cream with sweetened strawberries, pie crust flakes and a whipped topping.
To the less adventurous: yes, there will also be vanilla.
(Editor's note: Unapologetic vanilla lovers can celebrate July 23 during National Vanilla Ice Cream Day. At the original Outback Steakhouse location only, 3403 Henderson Blvd., in South Tampa, Blue Bell will be giving away its bestselling Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream to Outback guests on July 23 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. in celebration of National Vanilla Ice Cream Day — free with any dine-in purchase.)
