The English Beat It’s a 2-tone ska throwdown when the Dave Wakeling-led outfit lands at in Clearwater with their beat-jiving style, seasoning traditional sounds with elements of soul, pop, reggae and post-punk since they sprung from the UK in the late 1970s. The English Beat have been working on a fourth album and first new material since 1982’s Special Beat Service; Here We Go Love was fan-funded via PledgeMusic and is tentatively due out this year, which means you might hear a few fresh numbers mixed in with classics like “Mirror in the Bathroom” and “Save It For Later.” (Capitol Theatre, Clearwater)
Texas In July with To The Wind Invent/Animate, Reflections "We'll be playing songs from every album in the band's catalog, some that haven't been played in years, or ever at all,” claimed guitarist Chris Davis in the release announcing Texas in July’s ultimate dissolution after the run of dates this fall behind fourth (and last) full-length, 2014’s Bloodwork. So, it could be your final chance to see the Pennsylvania metalcore outfit scream through town … until the reunion tour, of course. (Orpheum, Ybor City)
Sirens with The Fine Constant Two Midwestern groups practicing highly technical, aggressive, and rather ominous sounds have teamed up for this co-bill. Sirens, from Terre Haute, In., dole out progressive metal with metallic and deathly overtones, and just released a debut full-length, SURGE. The Fine Constant does instrumental prog metal, the impressive shreds and arpeggios delivered by young but exceptionally skilled guitarist Sarah Longfield, whose chosen axe of choice is the uniquely-toned headless .strandberg Boden 8. Whitechapel with Psycroptic, Culture Killer Last year, Whitechapel dropped fifth full-length Our Endless War, which scaled the Billboard Hard Rock charts to peak at the No. 1 spot. This year, the Metal Blade Records-repped Knoxville, Tenn. death metal makers deliver a documentary, The Brotherhood of the Blade, which offers an intimate look at the musicians at home, work and play, and is paired with a live performance from a hometown gig.
