Local DEC's the place where Florida Democrats need to rebound; Cigar City Brewing wins at Tampa City Council, and can the "old ball coach" pull off a stunning college football upset? Mitch Perry Report 12.3.10

Happy Friday morning to those in the Tampa Bay area and beyond.

With Rod Smith now assured of victory as the next chairman of the Florida Democratic Party, we analyze what his biggest challenges will be, and how the real hope for any growth for the party in the next two years must come from its local chapters.

The focus of last week's cover story in CL, the battle over whether the internationally acclaimed Cigar City Brewing company in Tampa would be able to maintain its tasting room was decided on first reading yesterday, and the Tampa City Council voted 4-3 to give the brewery the license to continue to serve beer at its current location.  We also have a separate post on clarifying what City Council Chair Tom Scott said about our reporting as the meeting began.

And tomorrow ends the regular season that over the past 5 years has become our favorite sport to watch: college football.  And a man with a lot of Florida ties could have a major impact on how the national championship game is resolved.
