Impromptu Players' Regrets Only: Local celebs take the stage for a good cause

It's going to be interesting to see how a TV host, an attorney, the founder of one of the area's largest social networking sites and a USF professor pull off Regrets Only, Paul Rudnick's comedy about Manhattan trendsetters and gay marriage.

People who (for the most part) don’t usually act are going out on a limb this Saturday by performing in a play for a good cause.  Although the actors will technically be “on book,” they will also be moving around the stage, using props, wearing costumes and performing with sound and lights.

The performance is being produced by the Impromptu Players of Stageworks Theatre to raise money for the Stageworks Outreach Program which teaches at-risk youth about anger management, tolerance, AIDS, gang prevention, and empowerment through the use of theatre.

Regrets Only is a comedy by Paul Rudnick. The show is set in the glitzy realm of Manhattan society with a world-famous gay dress designer and his best straight girlfriend, a fashionista socialite who cares more about parties than politics. But see sparks fly when the designer learns that his girlfriend’s attorney husband is writing a constitutional amendment to ban same sex marriage.

The cast: WEDU TV host Cathy Unruh; Tampa attorney Tom Scarritt; LARY award-winning director and actor Ron Zietz; actress Midge Mamatas; Associate Professor, Career and Technical Education at USF, Dr. Janet Scaglione; and social networking sit, Brand Tampa founder Julia Gorzka.

Regrets Only will be performed at the Friday Morning Musicale, 809 W. Horatio Street, Tampa on Sat, April 25th at 8:00pm.  Tickets are $25 for general seating and $35 for preferred seating.  A block of 10 tickets is $250 in preferred seating.
