The wait is over: Bluemercury opens doors to its new Hyde Park Village location

There were more than a few people excited about the grand opening of Bluemercury Oct. 10. A line of 50 people stretched around the building before doors even opened that Saturday morning.

Lucky for those people, the Bluemercury staff showed their appreciation by handing out gift bags to the first 100 customers, pouring mimosas, handing out cupcakes and providing mini makeovers. For those in the know, the store opening represents a one-stop shop for some of the most highly-touted cosmetics, skin and hair care lines. Not only are all of your critic favorite Bumble to Bumble here, you will also find Oribe, La Mer, Nars, Molton Brown and many, many more.

Adorably warm and funny store manager Narelle MacWherter explained the overall concept of the store.

“We want it to be a friendly, neighborhood store where you get together with girlfriends and get makeup,” she said. “It has the laid back atmosphere some of the more [high-pressure] department stores don’t have.”

And laid back atmosphere it has indeed. There are testers for most every product and the sales team is knowledgeable and extremely patient. Another perk?

“We’d much rather you have a sample and not buy something that day than buy something you’re unhappy with and never come back,” says MacWherter.

That’s right, anything that has a tester sticker on it can be put into sample size for you to try in the comfort of your own home. Armed with my trusty notebook and long-time friend (and girly stuff guru) Stacy LeClair, I tried a little of the champagne and a lot of the goodies.

Here are some of our favorites:

M-61 Power Glow Peel – After MacWherter suggested that using this would make our faces feel “like buttah,” we were very excited to try it and were not disappointed. It was easy to see why this was one of the better-selling products from the Blue Mercury signature line. Refreshes and smooths without making you feel like you lost important layers of skin.

Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Cream - Use on damp hair before you blow dry and you will be tossing your hair over your shoulder like a movie star for hours. Not that we did that.

Moroccan Oil Body Buff – Shame on me for not knowing Moroccan Oil did more than just haircare. This is like an all-day spa for your rough spots and the yummy scent will have you in orange heaven all day.

Molton Brown Pink Pepperpod Body Wash – Admittedly, neither of us was impressed when we smelled the contents of this tiny, pink bottle. Using it in the shower is a whole other story; the scent is refreshing without being overpowering. Best of all, this is the first body wash I’ve ever used where I didn’t need to put on lotion immediately afterwards.

Caudalie Nourish Body Lotion – our review comes by way of an apology: We would like to apologize to all the strangers we’ve asked to touch our skin over the past few days. We didn’t want to make anything weird or awkward; we just felt that everyone should know how soft their skin could actually feel. We’re sorry and we’re sorry that we are not sorry. Get this for yourself and give this to a friend. Today.

Overall, Bluemercury has the products, the know-how and now the location to take care of all of your cosmetic needs. Men, don’t feel left out. Bluemercury carries the no-fuss, no-muss line, Jack Black. Hair and skin care are covered and be sure to check out the Beard Lube.
