Pirate Jonny’s has expanded the supermarket presence of its Caribbean-inspired barbecue rubs, seasonings and sauces. Last week, owners Jonathan and Terri Toner announced that select Publix and Winn-Dixie locations in Tampa Bay are now carrying their Clearwater business’s award-winning product line, previously available locally in stores like Whole Foods Market, Nutrition Smart and Sprouts Farmers Market.

Started in 2010, Pirate Jonny’s uses ingredients typically found in the Caribbean to pull off its 12 rubs, seasonings and four sauces, which are meant for daily stove-top and slow-cooker dishes alongside outdoor grilling. Featured Winn-Dixie offerings include the Sweet Island, Caribbean and Scorched Pirate rubs, as well as the Jamaican Jerk and Cajun Pirate seasonings. Pirate Jonny’s Garlic Island Sauce is also featured on the grocery store chain’s main condiment aisle.

For Publix shoppers — including those who frequent Tampa’s Hyde Park and Carrollwood locations — their options are the Jamaican Jerk Seasoning and the Sweet Island and Scorched Pirate rubs.

The Toner family’s flavorful array of accoutrements isn’t limited to meat, poultry or seafood recipes, either. Pirate Jonny’s products are fit for salads, soups, cold appetizers, dips and chips — and good thing, too. Labor Day weekend is quickly approaching.
