Tonight in live music; Robert Earl Keen at Capitol Theatre in Clearwater

It's the maverick songwriter's Clearwater debut.

Robert Earl Keen is about to get a statue of his likeness erected at Texas A&M University, but don't think that the 61 year old songwriter (and Aggie) is ready to have his career embalmed yet.

He arrives at the Capitol Theatre to make his Clearwater debut in support of a 2015 LP (Happy Prisoner: The Bluegrass Sessions, released via Dualtone) where he plays covers from the hallowed genre that played an amusing role in his teenage years.

"I went on my first date — stupid, stupid, stupid — to a bluegrass festival," he told Rolling Stone before the release. "I had just gotten my driver's license and I took this girl from down the street that I really liked. But I think she was a little baffled by the whole thing — she liked pop music, and this was in pretty deep Texas. Pretty hillbilly, pretty weird."
