If you haven’t noticed, Swedish electronica is everywhere these days: Peter Bjorn and John, Röyksopp, Koop, The Knife, and Fever Ray are getting bombed with critical love from all the major music sites. The newest addition to the craze is Little Dragon, and if you’re not familiar with them now – you will be soon.
Little Dragon was recently featured on two songs off the new Gorillaz album, Plastic Beach; the track “Empire Ants” in particular drawing the attention of Gorillaz fans to Little Dragon and their catchy electronic /soul/ pop. The song “Twice” was also featured on a recent episode of Grey’s Anatomy. I know some of you may question my indie cred for giving props to Grey’s, but its music selection is integral to the show; each episode actually named after one of the featured songs. Grey’s Anatomy soundtracks and weekly episode recaps introduced artists like Tegan and Sara, The Postal Service, Rilo Kiley, The Fray, and Snow Patrol to new audiences and gave these artists a shot at mass appreciation.
