Dresden Dolls DVD: Reviewed

Live at the Roundhouse, London

THE DRESDEN DOLLS

Eagle Vision

Punk cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls definitely fall into the category of “must be seen live.” In concert, the Boston twosome invites members of its roving “brigade” of performance artists on stage to interpret their dramatic songs about love and other assorted madness.

Culled from two consecutive 2006 dates in London, this DVD finds singer/songwriter/pianist Amanda Palmer and drummer/guitarist Brian Viglione (pictured together right) in top form in front of a highly enthusiastic crowd that mouths along to fan faves like “Coin Operated Boy” and even numbers from the Dolls’ latest album Yes, Virginia… 3.5 stars

The Dresden Dolls perform Jan. 10 at Tampa Theatre, Tampa. Just got off the phone with Palmer, who was giddy about the screeching monkey she got for Christmas. Look for my Dresden Dolls feature to run in the Creative Loafing that hits newsstands Jan. 2 (or Jan. 3 if you live in Pinellas).
