Liberal activists to protest against Bill Young this Saturday

  • Congressman Bill Young

Despite the fact that people say they dislike career politicians, in many cases they keep on re-electing them.

That would be the case in Pinellas County over the past four decades, as it has become a ritual for voters to mark off the name of one C.W. Bill Young every two years at the ballot box in November. The 80-year old Republican has represented Florida's 10th Congressional District since 1970. The Congressman has yet to announce if he'll run-for re-election in 2012, but then again, he has never declared this early in the election cycle his plans for the next year.

Despite his bipartisan support at the polls locally, he is a solid Republican supporting his party's agenda. Given that Pinellas' demographics have changed considerably since 1970, it's not surprising that there's a sizable group of voters who oppose that agenda.

Some of those folks will gather this Saturday to demonstrate against Young in St. Petersburg, before the Pinellas County Republican Party holds its annual Lincoln Day Dinner.
