Treasure Island reschedules lighted holiday boat parade

Rain beats snow, but it still means the annual tradition is postponed.

The Treasure Island lighted holiday boat parade is still happening, just not Friday night.

There's a 100 percent chance or rain tomorrow night, so Treasure Island has decided to reschedule its boat parade. Officials have changed the date of the boat parade, initially scheduled for Friday, Dec. 14, to Sunday, Dec. 16, when there's only a 10 percent chance of rain (and even less of a chance of snow).

The boat parade will start at 6:20 p.m. with a pre-parade party at the Club at Treasure Island. The pre-party's admission price? A new, unwrapped toy or a cash donation; those donations will go to The Christmas Toy Shop of Pinellas and the Edwards Family Foundation.

The pre-party includes the obligatory Santa visit — Mrs. Claus is coming, too, because she loves the Sunday brunch at the Club — as well as music, food, a cash bar and entertainment. The party happens by the pool, and nothing says Florida more than "poolside pre-lighted boat parade holiday party."

The parade route takes more than 45 boats past Paradise Island, through the Treasure Island Causeway, around Palms and Capri, and finishes at John's Pass. After the parade, there'll be an awards ceremony at the Club at Treasure Island.
