Another round of restaurants compete for Best Burger title

Another week, another patty battle, featuring James Joyce Irish Pub, Duffy's Sports Grill and others.

The gloves are coming off this weekend, as local restaurants prepare to duke it out for a fifth year at downtown Tampa's Burger Showdown.

Hosted at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, the patty battle will feature 11 competitors, including Duffy's Sports Grill, Duke's Brewhouse, Just Grillin and Grey Salt. Last year's winners included James Joyce Irish Pub, EATS! American Grill, The Rolling Gourmet and Pelagia Trattoria, and some of them will return to flip their finest burgers to a panel of culinary and celebrity judges, who will crown the Best Burger in Tampa Bay based on originality, presentation and taste.

Other titles like Best Use of Bacon, Bring the Heat, Where's the Beef? and People's Choice Award will also be determined.

The Burger Showdown is free to attend, and $25 sampling tickets may be purchased the day of the event, starting at 4 p.m. Beer, wine, soda and water will be available as well.
