Stephen Schrutt, owner of the Avenue eat/drink in downtown St. Pete, united with the rest of the Internet on Monday night. But he did so with a twist.
After being nominated by four people to take on the popular Ice Bucket Challenge — which involves pouring a bucket of ice water over one's head or donating to the ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, Association — Schrutt set up a dunk tank in front of his eatery to fulfill his dares while raising awareness for the cause.
He also donated $200 to the association, and an additional $20 for every Avenue staff member who jumped in the tank, according to a video of the challenge.
Earlier that day, the ALS Association announced its received $15.6 million in donations between July 29 and Aug. 18, which is more than the $1.8 million it received last year within that time period.
Schrutt dared four other people to participate in the Ice Bucket Challenge, including Rays pitcher Chris Archer.
