The Getaway has closed shop on its second waterfront location. The Getaway Maximo was located at 3769 50th Ave. S within south St. Pete's Skyway Marina District.
Don't sweat it, however, chances are you didn't know this spot existed; most Getaway loyalists frequented the Gandy Boulevard location instead. Still, the lesser-known, arguably more picturesque location, shared news of the closure via social media on Wednesday and invited locals to head to the OG spot at 13090 Gandy Blvd N. in St. Petersburg.
News of the closure is interesting since it comes just months after the Gandy Getaway bought a neighboring property for $1.2 million. Now let's see if owner Dave Burton — who also operates Maximo Marina Flock & Stock, Tampa Pizza Co., Holy Hog BBQ, and Gen-X Tavern — makes another big announcement soon.
Still, we're sorry you have to start your weekend by saying farewell to a bar you most likely never knew.
Hours for The Getaway on Gandy are Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.-midnight.
