Jessica Ehrlich says Bill Young no longer represents the values of Pinellas voters

In one of her first public media appearances since becoming a congressional candidate in Bill Young's recently redrawn District 13 district, Democratic Jessica Ehrlich said that after more than 40 years representing the district in Washington, the people are ready for a change.

"He's been in office for almost half a century and his views and what he’s doing just [don’t] represent the values of the people in Pinellas County anymore," Ehrlich said, speaking with this reporter and the Tampa Bay Times' Angie Drobnic Holan, just after concluding an hour-long meeting with a group of seniors featuring Democratic House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer at her campaign office.

Like the majority of House Republicans, Young voted for the Paul Ryan budget that slashes trillions of dollars in federal spending over the next decade, and just as controversially Medicare reforms — an issue that Democrats are more than happy to take advantage of this summer, especially when addressing senior audiences (there were eight local seniors at the meeting, most of them from local Democratic clubs in Pinellas or St. Petersburg).
