Dual guitars lead the charge through retro garage grit and post-punk grooves, warped surf twang, ‘90s alt rock grunge and light whiskey-dripped psychedelia in Harlot Drama, a fresh eight-track EP from newish St. Petersburg quartet Part Time/Models.
Axe-wielding singers Adam Shreve and Gino Capone deliver scratchy moans and howls (“Tart Temper,” “The Lack”), impetuous mocking outbursts (“I Eye Liquor”), and gentler harmonic intones when accompanied by guest vocalist Jessica Porter, who brings sneering sultriness to fast-shuffling opener “Coup de grâce,” and a breath of ethereal sweetness to the haunting, languidly-paced “Sweet Sweet” and the organ-tripping amble of “Fleetwood Models,” which breaks down into chaotic rock-out mode after a (faux? real?) studio flub. On the whole, Harlot Drama proves a rather intriguing first outing.
