Film: Halloween Horror Picture Show

Gasparilla International Film Fest, Enigma Films and Beach Theatre present the fifth annual Halloween Horror Picture Show. The 2008 edition has expanded to include three days' worth of entertainment. The daylight hours are jam-packed with vintage trailers and free (locally sponsored) screenings of family-friendly classics — Robot Monster, Ghostbusters, Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein and Gremlins, among others; kids enjoy face painting, trick-or-treating along Corey Avenue, and a costume parade prior to the first screening on Saturday. Double features of popular adult horror cult fare take place after dark. For Friday's "Deadite Night," there's screenings of Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness; Saturday's "Zombie Night" festivities include live music by Funeral Daizies, a screening of Night of the Living Dead, and the usual live cast presentation of Rocky Horror Picture Show featuring Interchangeable Parts. Bloody Mary's and other treats are offered both nights and attendees are encouraged to come in themed costumes. The fest's traditional indie film screening schedule begins late Sunday afternoon with a collection of indie horror shorts. Three feature-lengths follow — A Gothic Tale, Live Evil and Shadowland.
