In a listing of my all-time favorite albums, Dave Hardin's Nine Years Alone has a permanent home. For those of you who don't recognize the name, Dave Hardin was a staple of the local Tampa-area music scene for many years, churning out tons of great roots-rock tunes and building a loyal fan following. Then, in Eddie and The Cruisers-like fashion, Dave simply vanished from the scene. Although I had performed with Dave on several occasions and considered him a casual friend, I was as stunned by his disappearance as the next guy. Nine Years Alone is still on my iPod.
While working on website updates for a friend recently, I was completely taken aback by one of the new calendar listings for June; Dave Hardin in concert. After reading the announcement and checking the attached website link, I was left as surprised as if I had caught a glimpse of Sasquatch or a UFO. Luckily, this event is a bit more substantial than an extraterrestrial sighting and should be a lot more fun than alien probing. Fans of Dave, as well as anyone who loves great roots/folk rock, should make plans to catch Dave's only Florida show.
