Yonder Mountain String Band with Keller and the Keels Colorado’s Yonder Mountain String Band are generally ranked at the top of the jamgrass circuit with progressive sounds and a wide breadth of material reaching back to 1999 debut, Elevation. Though founding member Jeff Austin left in 2014, fiddler Allie Kral and mandolin player Jake Joliff were welcomed to the fold in 2015 to help produce latest release, Black Sheep. Joining the quintet on the road for some dates including this one are Keller and The Keels, the bluegrass project of Keller Williams and Larry and Jenny Keel. On the Edge One-Year Anniversary Lynnsey June and Josh Saint White – the power couple and hip hop duo also known as DEA & Saint – have showcased the talents of their finest local scene peers while bringing together a genre-crossing bill of entertainment via On the Edge @ The Amsterdam for a year now. They celebrate the milestone with an impressive lineup led by the righteous post-hip hop rock-outs of Samurai Shotgun, and featuring an intriguing highlight in the “spontaneous group vocal looping” of Mouth Council. Yanni He’d prefer you not classify his music as new age, but Yanni’s name is synonymous with the genre no matter how energetic his synthesizers or lush his orchestrations are, and the instrumental musician from Greece continues to chart No. 1s in the Billboard category. Sensuous Chill, his just-released 18th studio LP, pulses and slinks into world dance territories, while maintaining its vaguely AC airs. (Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater)–LP
Wild Child with Fay Roy, The Other Ryan Willis In the effervescent title track off Wild Child’s 2015 third LP, Fools, vocalist/violinist Kelsey Wilson takes the dulcet-toned lead, sharing harmonies on the refrain with co-leader/uke slinger Alexander Beggins as the music dashes and prances in bright passages of synths, bass and strings. The indie pop septet from Austin will likely play material off the new LP along with select favorites from its critically-adored predecessor, 2013 breakout Runaround. (Crowbar, Ybor City) –LP
Paleface Influential folk-roots troubadour Paleface has been playing as part of energetic duo with his girlfriend/collaborator Monica "Mo" Samalot backing him on drums and dulcet vocal harmonies for years now. This gig is free and should be a great time. (Ella’s Americana Folk Art Café, Tampa)
Chris Barrows, Mosquito Teeth, Dealbreaker Punk fans the world over know St. Pete’s Chris Barrows as frontman for venerable Stiff Pole Records act Pink Lincolns; he’s since led such bands as The Jackie Papers and The Spears, and just recently released a record with some fellow local vets as 210. Tonight he joins Fubar regular Mosquito Teeth and co-ed quartet Dealbreaker for a night of volume and attitude. (Fubar, St. Petersburg) –Scott Harrell
First Friday Ska Show with Crabhammer, Sketchie, Victims of Circumstance, Saganaki Bomb Squad The skanky smells wafting from this free showcase are turned up high as led by an out-of-town act with a four-pack horn attack in addition to its guitar-bass-drums-driven explosions, Georgia-spawned septet Crabhammer, delivering good natured, cheeky yet hard-hitting tracks like “If You Wanna Get Hurt, Skateboard!” and “You Can’t Spell ‘Apathetic’ Without ‘Pathetic.’” (Local 662, St. Petersburg)–LP
