Wednesday-music.com indie music profile: Elvis Perkins in Dearland

Multi-talented Elvis Perkins loathes the term singer-songwriter, because as he said, “it reminds me of open-mic nights and coffee shops and lazy chord structures".  Let’s call him a recording artist.  Anyway, multi-talented recording artist Elvis Perkins began playing guitar in high school through lessons from Prescott Niles of The Knack.  Some years later, he began creating the eclectic Americana laden folk-rock with which he is becoming acclaimed.

Because of his "intimate voice and intricate melodic style" his band, the Hudson River valley based Elvis Perkins in Dearland, made up of Elvis Perkins, Brigham Brough (bass, vocals, saxophone), Wyndham Boylan-Garnett (organ, harmonium, trombone, guitar, vocals) and Nick Kinsey (drums, clarinet, vocals) are commonly compared to Leonard Cohen, Neutral Milk Hotel, Buddy Holly and The Band.
