The weekend is over and it’s a nip titly out there, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks. A slew of local music news was announced over the last couple days — here are a few good morsels to warm you up:
Fistful — the solo project of Ascend The Hill frontman Joel Davis — has signed to Tampa’s own New Granada Records and is set to release Oklahoma City, a 2-song 7” hand-cut on clear vinyl. Davis dished out a handful of early bird copies at this show opening for the Sunbears! album release on Saturday, but look for the remainder of the lot to be released in December. In the meantime you should bother Davis about scoring one of these sweet long sleeve shirts and follow the band on Facebook.
A Pensacola upcycler wants to bring a little more aesthetic to your vinyl collection. The “Analogue Queue” is a sleek aluminum display unit that can hold between 5-20 records in queue so that you can display art and organize records in some kind of listening order. A Kickstarter campaign launched on October 27 and was funded in less than a week. A stretch goal incorporating new colors (white, orange, and gold in addition to black and chrome) has been implemented, and a rough timeline says units should start shipping in March. “It’s surreal,” Geoff Peck told CL when asked about his project being backed so fervently, “I have amazing family and friends who sent the link out to everyone they know.” Have a look at the thing in action via the video above and see a sweet GIF below. It’s hard to believe, but it’s been eight years on the block for Best Of The Bay winning venue Crowbar. “It’s been a good run. I can’t believe we’ve made it eight years.” Tom DeGeorge told CL when we caught up with him outside of the venue in the midst of last week’s Pre-Fest madness. “We’ve made so many good friends and so many relationships along the way. It’s been a humbling and incredible experience.” DeGeorge, 40, along with the rest of the Tampa music community will toast the achievement on December 13 with a free show featuring Seattle indie pop six-piece motopony. A handful of local favorites — Have Gun Will Travel, Sons Of Hippies, Will Quinlan & co., The Groves, and Sun Signs — plus DJs round out the bill. Doors for the free show are at 6 p.m. and Crowbar is located at 1812 N. 17th St. in Ybor City. More information is available here.
