Tampa businessman Don Kruse said he will file papers at some point during the next three to six weeks, challenging Al Higginbotham in the GOP primary for the Hillsborough County Commission's District 7 seat.
Mark Sharpe will vacate the seat in 2014 as he becomes term-limited. A fierce contest is already underway on the Democratic side, with school board chair April Griffin running against Tampa City Councilwoman Mary Mulhern.
Kruse hopes his fourth run for elected office within the decade proves to be the charm. He acknowledged that he'll be the underdog against Higginbotham, who represents Eastern Hillsborough in District 4 and who is running countywide for the first time since his initial victory in 2006.
