Mitch Perry Report 3.1.12 - a crowded race for 1 Hillsborough County school board seat

February 2012 and its series of hot, humid days are mercifully history.

Welcome to March, 2012, with even more humidity to take you through the last 19 days of winter.

I know complaining about the Florida weather can be considered futile - but this native Californian will never cease doing so! (At least during the time of year when we're supposed to have the best weather in the country).

Although we're nearly half a year away from our local primary elections, I couldn't help but notice that the race with the most amount of candidates in Hillsborough County, anyway, are those running to upend Carol Kurdell in the school board district 7 race. We've got a profile of those five challengers.

Florida is considered a must-win state for the Republicans to win the White House this November, and it's a state the Democrats desperately want to win again this year. Coming to St. Pete next week to raise awareness and, perhaps more importantly, lots of cash, will be Vice President Joe Biden.

And today students at USF and across the state (and the country) will be protesting on their respective campuses about rising tuition rates and massive budget cuts to higher education.
