This Scottish act, formed in '82, is among a roll call of rock bands that, for one reason or many, never reached the commercial potential that their music promised. Twisted is Del Amitri's best, and also contains the group's only major U.S. hit, "Roll to Me." ("It's the right time, to ro-oh-oll to me." — OK, you've placed them now?) That song is the frothiest entry in this 12-song set of sturdy and infectious adult contemporary rock with helpings of power-pop. Much of the rest is moody, even downcast, especially the standout track "Driving With the Brakes On," a moving evocation of marital discord. The ringer here is lead singer Justin Currie, whose smoky, soulful voice emotes without resorting to histrionics.
