CL Sound Bites: Foo Fighters channel Nirvana, the new old music of INXS, Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails, and more!

>>>Say what you will about Foo Fighters' occasionally above-average mainstream alt-rock, Dave Grohl never relied on his Nirvana pedigree to sell records. I'll give him credit for waiting fifteen years and six albums before tapping that well. Grohl is in the studio with Nevermind producer Butch Vig working on LP7, and Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic will make a guest appearance. Gibson's report hints at the album's direction:

The Foo Fighters frontman says the album is the group’s heaviest to date. “Each song is full on, the whole record is full on,” Grohl says. “In the 14 songs, there’s not one acoustic guitar, there’s not even one in the house.”

No one debates there's no Nirvana without Kurt Cobain; but between Grohl, Novoselic and Vig, they could bring this movie to life and we'd have the next best thing.

Another classic band that tragically lost a frontman is making new music as well. Find out who, and why that singer is spinning in his grave after the jump.
