The interior of The Pink Petticoat is “Ballet Pink” — perfect for a lingerie shop.

Delicate things are tucked inside this Hyde Park Village spot, where cupids can find pretty presents to give their Valentines. Boutique owner Lesley Geyer says 50 percent of her clientele is male. How fabulous is that? Way to shop local, boys!

Geyer likes to work with her male customers. They’re happy for the guidance, for one thing. Plus, they’re so much less critical of what women look like in lingerie than women are.

Think about that. Maybe it’s not men who are holding us up to supermodel standards; we may be doing that to ourselves.

And that’s what’s nice about the Petticoat (and other local lingerie purveyors, like South Tampa’s La Violette). They prove that not every shopper has been seduced by the commercial juggernaut that is Victoria’s Secret. What’s more, these smaller shops offer a much more intimate experience than a big national chain is likely to provide.

The Pink Petticoat is ideal for intimate affairs, of course. So, in addition to regular store hours, the shop hosts private parties. Customers love the individual attention afforded in this atmosphere — especially when it comes to finding the right fit or a special something for a sexy celebration.

A peek inside the Petticoat reveals a romantic selection: Betsey Johnson, Cosabella and the like; thongs in every color; the rare piece of swimwear (only those created by lingerie designers); a few naughty things. Geyer also sells fragrances, and carries a surprising jewelry inventory. Yes, like the hot pink guitar pick necklace.

Have a rockin’ Valentine’s Day.
