Temporary closure of Chop Chop Shop begins Jan. 15

It's the last week that fans of Chop Chop Shop's fast-and-fresh bowls and other Asian-inspired fare can scoop some up in Seminole Heights. For a little bit, anyway.

In an early December Facebook post, the quick-serve restaurant announced that its speedy kitchen, which has specialized in "chopped up cuisine" at 6605 N. Florida Ave. for more than a year, would temporarily close for one to two weeks in January. Chop Chop Shop plans to reopen after some changes — an updated menu and kitchen setup — are complete.

A final dinner service before the temporary closure will take place Sunday.

"To be clear, I know what we are about to do (overhaul a working, established concept) is widely recommended against, but as I mature as a businessman, restaurateur, and chef-in-self-training, I am realizing I cannot be completely satisfied with the Shop as it is," said owner Steve Sera in his Facebook announcement. "Yes, it's good, it's appreciated, and loved by many, but I've wanted to make many changes for a long time (some since day one) and even more as I learned about our business and myself, so it's just time."

As the closing date nears, some items have been cut from the restaurant's menu, but diners shouldn't worry. According to Sera: "There is a method to this madness."
