A more ambient yoga experience — Dark Wave Yoga at Tempus Projects

Tampa gallery Tempus Projects veers a little off the wall every Tuesday night for an hour of Dark Wave Yoga, 7:15-8:15 p.m.

Teachers Eric and Erin Wheeler are warm and welcoming. The married yogi duo comes to Tempus Projects from Seminole Heights’ Lucky Cat Yoga.

A vinyasa flow set to dark, melancholy music makes this practice a truly unique one. New wave genres such as post-punk, gothic rock, dark synth pop and industrial music are just a few to expect, with music from Nine Inch Nails, Morrissey, Bauhaus and Joy Division, Dark Wave Yoga offers a much different mood, and overall experience, from traditional classes.

Vinyasa is one of the more stimulating flows, developing strength, concentration and of course balance. Eric and Erin Wheeler’s class is fast-paced and certainly challenges students to keep up; all skill levels are welcome and encouraged to partake in the class, but the difficult nature aims it toward those more experienced in their practice.

The class allotment is small, with a limit of 20 students per class, but appropriate for the modest-sized space. Once your spot is reserved, Eric and Erin simply ask that you bring a mat, towel and bottle of water.

To reserve a spot, e-mail [email protected] or text 813-451-3672 your name, number and method of payment. $15 for drop-in, $12 for students, military or yoga teachers, $60 for a membership package of five classes in six weeks.

A portion of the proceeds goes right back to Tempus Projects to support future programming.
