We haven't seen any press releases from any local 9/12 groups yet, but otherwise we suspect most of the Tampa establishment is pleased this morning that the city received that a nearly $11 million federal grant yesterday to construct a crucial second-to-last part of the Riverwalk, coming just days before President Obama makes a campaign appearance here. Mayor Bob Buckhorn was extremely ebullient, and he celebrated by pressing the flesh with some of the hundreds who waited in Ybor City for Obama's upcoming event.
On Tuesday several voting and civil rights groups announced that they are suing Florida regarding the voting purge of non-citizens, which except for a couple of stray counties, is no longer happening inside the state. Although the purge is controversial for obvious reasons (like taking eligible citizens off the voting rolls), it's all good for most of the state's electorate, apparently, as a brand new poll released this morning shows 60 percent of the public supporting Rick Scott's aims.
And while Mitt Romney continues to pad his fundraising totals via "third-party" Super PACS, organized labor is the Democrats equivalent. The SEIU announced yesterday launched a ground campaign in support of President Obama.
