Austrian "Pastafarian" wins right to wear colander in drivers license photo

A subscriber to the 'Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster' religion

Austrian citizen Niko Alm had been repeatedly denied the right to wear a colander on his head in his drivers license photo. And why would he want to wear a colander, you ask? Niko, a self-proclaimed "Pastafarian", subscribes to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, a fairly new religion where followers "reject dogma" and the beliefs of all other recognized religions in general.

Since 2008, Alm has sought his right to wear his religious head gear in his government photo, but the Austrian government didn't include the colander in their outline of acceptable headwear. But after three years and a note from his doctor stating that he is “psychologically fit” to drive, Alm's drivers license photo now shows him wearing his beloved strainer with the handle cocked to one side.
