Do It Today: yappy hour art party at Decker Ross, David Clark Isele and comedian Eddie Griffin

Two of the best creations in this world: dogs and art.

Experience them both at Dog Days of Summer-Gone at Decker Ross Studio.

The event is a yappy hour for canines all ages and happy hour for grown-up human types with a reception featuring the artwork of Anna Hamilton, mural artist and creator of what's affectionately known as the "doggy wall" in Dunedin (pictured).

The Dunedin Doggy Rescue will be on site with information on their organization, and proceeds from items sold at the event will benefit the organization.

Smooth jazz musician Peggy Morris plays the sax, flute and sings.

Plus, there will be a doggy fashion show, Chinese raffle and silent auction. Sample food catered by the Lobster Pot Bistro. 4 p.m. 1445 Court St., Clearwater. 727-442-9996.

On the other side of the bay, we have — for free — the highly impressive David Clark Isele, who has premiered works in Carnegie Hall. Isele says his Supernal Temptations concert at UT is the only performance exclusively composed of works by him. The composer-in-residence at UT will premiere five new pieces at a free concert in Fletcher Lounge of Plant Hall. In addition to the new pieces, the hour-long performance will feature works from the last four years, including chamber music for piano quartet, small choral ensemble, piano duet and solo piano. The new compositions will include one each for viola, flute, trumpet, bassoon, soprano and two pianos. Musicians in the concert include UT faculty members Grigorios Zamparas, Mauricio Venturini, Beth Waligorski, Barbara Prescott, Libor Ondras, Hein Jung and Aric Brian. For more information, call 813-257-3344 or 813-253-6211. 7:30 p.m. University of Tampa, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa.

For something not so frou-frou but equally noteworthy, check out a celeb comic at the Tampa Improv.

The Improv's special event entertainer this week, Eddie Griffin, stars in UPN's  Malcom & Eddie and has appeared in several TV and movie roles, including the Luke Wilson flick, The Wendell Baker Story.

In addition to tonight's show, he also performs Fri. 8 and 10 p.m. and Sat. 7:30 and 10 p.m. $30. 1600 E. Eighth Ave., Centro Ybor, Ybor City. 813-864-4000. improvtampa.com.
